This delightful midcentury (1940s) necklace is made of hand-carved cattle bone. The flowers represented are edelweiss, which grows in the high altitudes of the Swiss Alps. Historically, a gift of edelweiss to a maiden was a sign of courage and strength of the person gathering, because the flower was so difficult to get to.
