These are DELFT pieces, originally from Holland. Delft, or Delftware, refers to the brilliant, cobalt blue enamel that is used here, almost always on a crisp white porcelein background. Because Delft is native to the Netherlands and Holland, the scenes depicted are often Windmills and sailboats moving along canals. Flowers and classic wooden Dutch shoes are also popular.
