Capricorn now is the Zodiac symbol known for being hardworking and practical, ambitious and disciplined. Falling at the end of the year, Capricorn begins on the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year with the longest, darkest night - and the steady sign provides the foundation for the longer days, the return of the light, and the release of the shadows.
Capricorn is represented by the 'Sea Goat' - the head and horns of Pan, blended with the tail of a fish - this being the shape that Pan took when he jumped into the Nile to escape the monster Typhon. Capricorn blends the earthly and the emotional, and always with forward movement.
This rare vintage pendant was designed by Italian jewelry designer Pietro Giampaoli. Giampaoli worked primarily in the mid 1900s, and was known for the precise and yet mythological feel of his images. His Zodiac jewelry line is still highly collectible, and his 500 Lire Coin is a work of art unto itself!
