Here I've combined two very different types of bead into one ancient, timeless style. The turquoise beads are natural, probably 60 or 70 years old, and each filled with details and hues that make them each individual maps, tiny planets strung on a glittering chain.
The metal beads, meanwhile, are over 100 years old. These are pot silver - probably 75-80% pure silver - that have been washed in gold. They shine with a soft light, subtle and rich looking as opposed to glittering and flashy.
I've combined these using bright red silk that I've waxed with all natural beeswax. A pattern of knots keeps the beds in place and secure and also provides a meditative, mala like quality to the necklace.
A simple S shaped Sterling silver clasp completes the piece, adding to the feel that this necklace could have been made anytime in history!
